BREAKING NEWS
The Fortescue is delighted to announce that they have been voted Plymouth CAMRA Pub of the Year for 2009 - 2010: that's TWO YEARS RUNNING!!! To celebrate this, we are extending our 8 Ales All Day Every Day beer festival for another year.

Rob Hick, chairman of Plymouth CAMRA presents the pub of the year certificate to Fort landlord Steve Smith

June 1st marked the end of our (now extended) 8 week beer festival and the votes for which ale to make our new regular were duly counted. Spingo Special and Doom Bar beat London Pride by one vote to come first place, but as all these ales were already weekly regulars, the fourth most popular ale, Highgate Irish Whiskey Ale has become our 10th weekly regular. Shane O'Carroll's voting slip was randomly selected from the stack of Spingo Special and Doom Bar votes and we were pleased to inform him that he had won a gallon of it.

LOTTERY FUNDING FOR MOOR VIEW PARK
The Big Lottery Fund have announced the third phase of its Breathing Places grants programme, with 400 projects receiving funding including Moor View Park next to the Fort. The project aims to improve and expand upon facilities the public park by creating an innovative village green in an urban environment. Activities will include imaginative planting of various species and the installation of children's play equipment. Seating will also be installed and signage improved to make the area more accessible to the local community. See BBC web site

PLYMOUTH CRICKET CLUB'S PLIGHT

Plymouth Cricket Club's ground - which is also the home of the Fortescue Cricket Club - is on council owned land in Central Park. The council leased the land to Plymouth Sports Centre, a firm run by Argyle chairman Paul Stapleton, in 2004. Now the cricket club has been told to quit. Plymouth Cricket Club, however, feel they have a very strong case for ownership of the land as they have used the ground for over 80 years. The club needs to raise £20,000 to defend this right in court in late summer 2008.
